Moxibustion

Should your body have what is termed to be a cold syndrome, the moxaplant is applied to a needle and heated up to warm the acupoints.

Its warming and invigorating properties penetrate the skin and activate the channels.

moxibustion imageMedical historians believe that moxibustion pre-dated acupuncture, and needling came to supplement moxa after the 2nd century BC.

Practitioners consider moxibustion to be especially effective in the treatment of chronic problems, "deficient conditions" or weaknesses. Bian Que asserted that moxa could add new energy to the body and could treat both excess and deficient conditions.

Moxibustion would always be undertaken following a full discussion and examination to assess the patient's "deficient" areas and the possible benefits of each different moxa.
